2013 CMC Cactus State AZ Motocross Championship – Round 3

Round 3 of the CMC Cactus State series was wrapped into the AMA Western Pro Am. AZ riders played great hosts to the visiting racers.

AMA West Hare Scramble – Round 1 Photo Report

The morning was overcast and chilly (by Arizona standards) but come race time the sun was out and it was a beautiful January day at Arizona Cycle Park, host to Round 1 of the AMA West Hare Scramble. Cory Graffunder was defending his #1 plate from many other riders that will try to take it from him this year.

Gary Sutherland got off to a quick start and pretty much lead the way for the whole two and a half hours

But that didn’t keep Sutherland from sneaking a peak behind him ever once and a while

Justin Sanders made short work of the huge sand doubles as he piloted his Yamaha to second place

David Broderick started on the second row in AA class but charged all the way to a third overall!

Tallon Taylor had no problems with the MX section of the 12+ mile lap. He took third in the Pro class.

Alex Dorsey was able to put his KTM in fourth place after 150 minutes

Anson Maloney rounded out the top five in the pro class

Cory Graffunder had some bike issues and lost too much time to the rest of the pack. He ended up 10th in the pro class

Gary Sutherlin, Justin Sanders, & David Broderick show off their hardware at the end of the day.

November 18th 2012 – CMC Cactus State Rd #3 – Arizona Cycle Park

Lines were plentiful during practice….

It was pretty even as soon as the gate dropped

But as lap one came to a close Kyle Dearing, Angel Molina, & Doug Goodman start to spread it out

Paul Romanek chases down Cody Granados

But Granados was chasing down Goodman

Second moto Jake Schmich drops in chasing the lead pack

Dearing leaps his way to the front

65 0-8, 9-11 & 85/150F Beginner, 7-11, 12-13

Nicky Bons grabs the holeshot in front of Austin Zambach & Trevor Woodward

The rest of the pack trys to hunt down the leaders

Zambach takes the lead from Bons exiting the rollers

Austin Dickinson airs it out over the uphill triple in moto 2

Alexander Vestal leads Miles Mcguigan up to the triple

40+ Intermediate, Junior, Master

Ty Nexsen leads Hans Vanderwall in moto 1

While Greg Camron shows the fast line to Scott Gettinger and Daniel Barker

Ty Nexsen protects the inside from Brian Graham

Ron Mercer carries momentum around the outside while Ed Hession aims to the inside

Bobby White hunts down James Johns

Moto 2 started off with some close racing between Nexsen, White, & Vanderwaall

White takes the lead from Brian Graham

Hession shows the way through the rollers in front of Johns & Mercer

125/250 Beginner, Junior, Intermediate, Pro

Moto 1 racing was tight up front from the get go

Chest protectors were definitely a must

Lauren Thompson & Aubry Bailey battle for the lead

Angel Molina outbreaks Reggie Christensen into a left hander

Moto 2 start was a carbon copy of moto 1

This class had the race of the day.

Connor Giardina leads Austin Zambach after the first lap….

….But Zambach had a tip over that gave away a possible moto win

Moto 2 was different. Giardina had a bad start while Zambach put it out front. It was a battle with multiple lead changes all the way to the checkers.
